1.Typical defects in the production of 1000 series aluminum alloys.

- Floating (open, free) grains.
- Surface defects: cracks of different origin, abscesses, scratches. Formation of the above mentioned defects are mainly due to the fact that the alloys of 1000 series are low alloyed with additional elements.
2、Known methods of defects elimination at 1000 series wrought aluminum alloys:
For the most effective removal of structures «Fir Tree»:- ratio Fe / Si should be less than 1 or more than 3;
- low metal level in the mold;
- high temperature metal in the furnace;
- high speed casting;
- alloying with free titanium in an oven during melt preparation;
- alloying with modifier Al-Ti-B during casting.
The fan structure is removed in the following ways:
- alloying with free titanium in an oven during melt preparation;
- alloying with quality modifier Al-Ti-B during casting;
- stirring the melt in the mold during casting;
- avoid high temperature of metal in the furnace.
Floating crystals can be removed with the following possible methods:
- alloying with free titanium in an oven during melt preparation;
- alloying with quality modifier Al-Ti-B during casting;
- distribution of the metal in the mold strongly in the horizontal plane;
- allowable upper limit of temperature of metal in the furnace.
